Action on Smoking and Health takes its position within the global tobacco control movement very seriously. ASH has a long history of taking action that results in lasting change. We are honored to receive recognition from our community and public health sectors for the work that ASH and its staff have done.

2014 – ASH was awarded the Health Leadership Award by the U.S. Surgeon General

2011 – WHO World No Tobacco Day Award

2008 – Under Laurent Huber and ASH’s leadership and direction, the Framework Convention Alliance (FCA) received the Premio SEDET

2007 – Award from the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia

2006 – Luther L. Terry Award

2005 – American Lung Association C. Everett Koop Unsung Hero


Ethel R. Wells

In honor of Mrs. Ethel R. Wells, dedicated Trustee of Action on Smoking and Health. We are honored and inspired by her leadership and her unwavering dedication to ASH. Her vision, legacy of passion, and generosity continue through her beloved daughter, Marion Rose Wells.

Martin A. Jacobs

In honor of Mr. Martin Jacobs, dedicated Trustee of Action on Smoking and Health. Martin had a vision for his role in life – fighting for the underdog. He was to his last breath an incorruptible, determined, insightful advocate whose legacy continues to motivate the work of ASH.
