The tobacco industry is relentlessly targeting children in Indonesia, using widespread advertising, promotion, and sponsorship of tobacco products through all types of media.
Involvement of children in tobacco farming also places children in serious health and safety risk.
But the truth is far darker: tobacco kills millions, and these tactics violate children’s human rights.
We Are Taking Action.
30 organizations are jointly reporting these violations to the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) at the 99th Session in May 2025.
Signatory organizations include: Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) • Asosiasi Dinas Kesehatan Seluruh Indonesia (ADINKES) • Center of Human and Economic Development (CHED) ITB-AD • Gerakan Kesehatan Ibu dan Anak (Mother and Child Health Movement – GKIA) • Hasanudin CONTACT • Indonesia Institute for Social Development (IISD) • Indonesian Human Rights Legal Aid – PBHI • Indonesian Public Health Association – West Java Chapter • Institut Ilmu Kesehatan Strada Indonesia • Koalisi Nasional Masyarakat Sipil untuk Pengendalian Tembakau • Lembaga Perlindungan Anak Indonesia (LPAI) • Muhammadiyah Steps (Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta) • Muhammadiyah Tobacco Control Center (MTCC UNIMMA) Universitas Muhammadiyah Magelang • No Tobacco Community (NoTC) Bogor, Jawa Barat • Perkumpulan Promotor dan Pendidik Kesehatan Masyarakat Indonesia (PPPKMI) Jawa Tengah • Pusat Ekonomi Bisnis Syariah Universitas Indonesia • Research Group Tobacco Control FKM UNAIR • RUKKI – Indonesia Health Policy Forum • Rumah Mediasi Indonesia • Siber Muhammadiyah University • Sinergi Bersama Mengurangi Asap Rokok di Kulon Progo (Semarku) • Smokefree Jakarta • Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network (SAFEnet) • The Aceh Institute • Tobacco Control Pengurus Pusat Ikatan Pelajar Muhammadiyah (TC PP IPM) • Tobacco Control Support Center IAKMI • Tulodo Indonesia Research Institute • Udayana CENTRAL • Yayasan Abdi Sehat Indonesia (YASIN) • Yayasan Lembaga Konsumen Indonesia (Indonesian Consumer Association – YLKI)
