Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) is a globally recognized, Washington, DC-based, public health nonprofit with a 57-year history of success in public health education and advocacy. The organization is seeking a dynamic development leader to drive its fundraising efforts of approximately $2 million per year. The position reports directly to the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. This is an ideal position for a mid-senior level major gifts expert or grant writing professional.

Essential Functions

• Collaborates with the management team to develop and implement fundraising and sustainability strategies.

• Guides and trains staff on fundraising tasks, initiatives, opportunities, and processes.

• Works with staff team in development of grant proposals, including design of goals/outcomes/ deliverables/frameworks and editing/translating documents developed by program staff into resource generation focused content.

• Manages robust prospect pipelines, including value and relationship ratings, maintaining updated lists, tracking metrics, scheduling, and preparing for calls and meetings. Supports prospect research, relationship management and provides donor support.

• Supports implementation of team projects, such as outreach campaigns, donor cultivation pathways and stewardship programs

• Leads writing projects, such as correspondence, thank-you letters, emails, cover letters and notes, and larger proofreading projects such as reports and proposals.

• Leads development of donor-focused materials, working with design and communications teams to translate policy outcomes into investment opportunities.

• Engages with existing donor data to provide information for analysis, queries, and next steps to support outreach, cultivation, and follow-up.

• Performs specific outreach functions on behalf of the organization, including prospecting and research.

• Interacts with external audiences, staff, and constituents at all levels of the organization.

 

Qualifications and Compensation

• Bachelor’s degree (Masters Preferred) with a minimum of 10+ years of experience in high-value fundraising, including major gifts, grants, and extensive donor cultivation cycles

• Previous experience in being accountable for fundraising/revenue projections or sales targets preferred

• Proven track record of producing outstanding, quality content and materials.

• Concise, compelling communications-style

• Proactive organization skills for managing work portfolios and projects with remote colleagues.

• Outgoing personality and excellent social skills in interactions with donors and prospects.

• Demonstrated ability to manage up and present a positive, professional, and engaging personality.

• Computer proficiency and technical skills

Rate: $60-$100 per hour, pending qualifications
