Liz Furgurson – Bio

Liz Furgurson is the Chief Operating Officer of Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) and an experienced tobacco control advocate. She oversees ASH’s management, finances, and programmatic output and impact.

She joined ASH in 2003 and has served in a variety of capacities in the tobacco control community through ASH at the global, national, and local levels.

Liz currently serves as the Immediate Past Chairperson of the District of Columbia Tobacco-Free Coalition which advocates for strong tobacco control policies to protect all District residents and recently welcomed a ban on all flavored tobacco products in Washington, D.C.

From 2007 – 2015, while ASH was the Secretariat of the Framework Convention Alliance (FCA), an international coalition of over 500 non-governmental organizations from more than 100 countries, Liz served as the Chief Operating Officer of the FCA, now re-branded as the Global Alliance for Tobacco Control (GATC). The FCA is recognized for its vital role in shaping the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, and Liz was a key part of the FCA’s organization, structure, and impact at and between tobacco treaty negotiations.

Liz holds a Bachelor of Science from George Mason University, a Master of Science from American University, and a professional certificate in Budget and Finance from Georgetown University. Liz remains actively involved in her local community of Northwest DC and proudly serves on the Board of District Bridges.
