Dear President Obama,
In 2003, the United States joined the rest of the world in unanimously adopting the text of the historic WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. In the last nine years, 175 nations have taken the next step and ratified this vital treaty, but the United States has remained on the sideline.
Tobacco is expected to kill 1 billion this century, ten times the toll of the last. The toll in death, disease and treasure is massive, and the continued epidemic is unacceptable in light of the proven tools included in the FCTC.
Please submit the FCTC to the Senate for ratification, and work to ensure its swift approval.
