ASH's SAVE-A-LIFE WALLET CARD
How It Can Save YOUR Life, or the Life of a Loved One

ASH, America's oldest and largest antismoking organization, has developed a world-famous SAVE-A-LIFE wallet card which could help save YOU or a loved one from death or crippling disability from stroke or heart attack.

Please take just a moment to read this vital life-saving information.
STROKES

Strokes — now called Brain Attacks — are the major cause of crippling disability among older Americans, and the third leading cause of death in the U.S.

Even nonsmokers can fall victim, especially if they have one or more major risk factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, overweight, or a  personal OR family history of heart or circulatory disease, etc.

Fortunately there are new drugs which can help prevent a stroke from becoming a crippler or killer.  But they are effective only if given very promptly — within a few short hours — after the onset of symptoms.

The big problem is that most people don't recognize the often subtle signs of a brain attack.

So if YOU started to have a stroke, the people around might not recognize it, and the delay could mean crippling disability — or even death — rather than a prompt recovery.

Also, most people don't know the very simple TESTS they can give — in a home, office, or anywhere — to help determine if a person is having a stroke.

And if YOUR family, co-workers, and friends don't know the signs and the tests, YOU could lose YOUR ability to talk or walk — or even your life — if THEY don't act quickly and call 911 when YOU first exhibit the subtle warning signs.

To prevent such tragedies, ASH has prepared a handy wallet-sized SAVE-A-LIFE card so that you, your spouse, your adult children, and others can have all of this life-saving information with them at all times — ready to save YOU from premature death and disability.

Since it's in a wallet, rather than in drawer somewhere, the information is always immediately available when you need it.  During an emergency, people tend to panic, or to forget.  The card is always there, with this life-saving information printed clearly in black and white.

HEART ATTACKS

Many people recognize the 3 classic symptoms of a heart attack, but new research shows that many people — especially women can have a heart attack without ever suffering from chest pains. As the New York Times recently put it:

"For too many women, and for doctors too, heart disease has been characterized by the stereotypical image of a middle-aged businessman turning red or pale, sweating and clutching his chest. . . .  Yet, for women, the picture is often very different."

But the women (and some men) who suffer a heart attack without the classic symptoms also need very prompt treatment to avoid disability or even death.

That's the primary reason why ASH's SAVE-A-LIFE wallet card has been updated to provide the most current symptoms of a heart attack.

FIRST, we've updated this life-saving card to include the latest information from governmental and medical organizations about heart attacks.

Now, for the first time, the new card lists 5 NEW symptoms of a heart attack which can occur WITHOUT ANY CHEST PAINS, in addition to the 3 classic symptoms.

SECOND, because our members have requested it, we've included space on the card for your name, address and phone number; the name and address of your doctor; your current medications or allergies; the name and phone number of an emergency contact, and more.

NOW, for the first time, all of this information is available in one place where it's always ready and available.

So, this card can save your life THREE different ways:

1. providing the 5 symptoms and 3 tests for a brain attack
2. listing 5 NEW non-chest heart attack symptoms
3. insuring that your personal and medical information is always readily available when needed.
