ASH Warns Credit Card Companies about Internet Tobacco Sales
On March 3, ASH Executive Director John Banzhaf sent a letter to 15 of the largest credit card issuers, warning them of potential civil and even criminal liability for their part in allowing illegal on-line cigarette sales. Many Internet vendors do not verify the age of purchasers and do not report sales to state tax agencies – both are required to do so by state and federal laws.
